Sharing your upgrade

Your upgrade is being saved in a subdirectory of your PLS temporary directory named "setup" (by default this will be C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Roaming\PLS\temp\Setup or C:\pls\temp\setup unless edited in the File/Preferences dialog). You may wish to share this directory with others at your company to reduce their upgrade time by avoiding the download delay. Also, once your upgrade code expires (typically in seven days) you can use the stored copy of the upgrade should you need to reinstall rather than request a new code. To install using the stored copy of the upgrade follow this procedure:

Copy your "setup" folder onto a USB memory stick, CD, or across the network to the machine to be upgraded.
Attach the USB memory stick, CD, or open the network folder with the upgrade.
Run the setup.exe program in the "setup" folder.
Select the Upgrade from prior version option.
Press the Install button.

Installing on a new computer

If you would like to install the upgrade on a new computer (one that does not currently have PLS software installed on it) then follow this procedure:

If you have an original Power Line Systems Setup CD:
1. Install the software from the CD.
2. Follow the instructions given in the email message that contained your upgrade code to upgrade to the latest version.
If you do not have an original Power Line Systems Setup CD:
1. Copy the setup folder to the new computer as described in Sharing your upgrade.
2. Install the software on the new computer by running setup.exe from the setup folder.
3. Now run a PLS application like PLS-CADD.
4. Finally, use the Help/Check For Updated Manual command in PLS-CADD (or the appropriate program) to download the latest manual to your computer.

Projects saved in version 20.00 are readable in versions 19.01 and newer unless:

New Commands:
1) "Lines/Merge Projects..." replaces "Lines/Load DON File or Merge Projects..." and includes
significant improvements in merging alignments.
2) "Terrain/Automatic Model Builder (AMBER)..." to automatically build alignments, place Method 1
structures, and string conductors using classified survey points.
3) "Terrain/Alignment/Line-Specific Alignment Configuration" enables and configures different
alignments for different line models. This can also be configured in the 'Alignment' tab in
"Sections/Display Options".
4) "Terrain/TIN/Create Surface TIN..." creates a TIN mesh from any selected feature codes; not
restricted to ground points.
5) "Structures/Customize Structure/Framing/Batch Add" adds a frame set to multiple pole structures
in a PLS-CADD model.
6) "Structures/Available Structure List/Component File Report" lists every component file every
Method 4 structure uses and which component files duplicate another.
7) "Structures/Alignment/Convert Structure(s) to Station-based..." and "Structures/Alignment/Conve
rt Structure(s) to XY-based..." to convert structures between station-based and XY-based.
8) "Sections/Electric/Audible Noise Calculator..." calculates and reports L5 and L50 noise
levels.
9) "Sections/Autosag All..." autosags all sections.
10) "View/Measure Distance/Along Path" measures the distance with more than one line segment.
11) "Help/Upload File to PLS Technical Support..." to transmit files to PLS support.
For PLS-CADD/LITE:
12) Context menu command "Move Span End Attachment Point" to graphically change the horizontal
projection, vertical projection, and azimuth of the selected wire.
13) Context menu command "Rotate Structure" command to graphically change the 'Bearing of
Transverse Axis'.
14) "Criteria/Structure Clearances" to configure criteria used by "Sections/Structure Clearances..
."

General:
1) Added 'Merge' button in "Lines/Edit..." that creates a new line model based on selected
structures and sections from two existing line models. This improved method will eventually replace
the older "Lines/Merge..." functionality.
2) Added 'New' button to "Lines/Edit..." which creates a blank line model.
3) Added ability to multi-select, reorder, and delete PIs to "Terrain/Alignment/Table Edit
Alignment".
4) Modified "Terrain/Alignment/Move P.I." command behavior so only the PI currently snapped to is
moved when two PIs are co-located.
5) The "Terrain/TIN/TIN Manager" command has replaced the "Terrain/TIN/Display Options..." and
"Terrain/TIN/Isoclearance Lines/Clearance TIN Display Options..." commands.
6) Added Details pane to "Terrain/TIN/TIN Manager" which displays information about the selected
TIN file and the dialog settings used to generate it.
7) Added 'Copy Selected TIN to New Surface TIN' to "Terrain/TIN/TIN Manager" which copies a TIN
of any type to a Surface TIN.
8) Now correctly detect compound coordinate systems when defined in a .prj file (i.e. coordinate
system definitions that have both a horizontal and vertical component).
9) Updated to PROJ 9.4.0, which includes many newly integrated EPSG coordinate system definitions.

10) Increased default radius for WMTS/Terrain data import during "File/New/From Template..." from
80ft to 200ft so we're more likely to get better imagery coverage.
11) Massive reduction in up-front memory usage when using "Terrain/Edit/Merge Points from
External File/Merge Points from Internet..." with the alignment import extents options.
12) Updated "Structures/Material/Batch Edit Structure-Specific Material" and "Structures/Material/
Batch Add/Remove Structure-Specific Material" commands to allow floating point quantities.
13) Now ask user if they want to edit the structure without loads (so they get structure LiDAR)
or if they want to continue with the loads last saved with the structure.
14) Added an option to swap phases when rotating structures with horizontal sets by more than 170
degrees in "Structures/Staking Table".
15) Context menu command "Save Copy of Structure as Method 1/Multiple Save" now adds newly
created structures to the available structure list.
16) Added the ability to Save and Load Report Settings to the Structure Overview Report Configurat
ion dialog.
17) Updated "Sections/Add Graphical..." to more consistently use set numbers of +/- 10 when
connecting across dead-end structures.
18) Added options 'Automatically place flexible jumpers on dead end structures' and Attempt to
untangle crossed wires by swapping attachments' to "Sections/Add Graphical..."
19) Added 'ACSS/TW' to the 'Cable Type' selection for "Sections/Cable Files/Edit Existing Cable
File...".
20) Updated the table in "Criteria/Cable Tensions..." to grow to greater than 200 entries as

21) Now support the scroll wheel and the '+'/'-', 'up'/'down', 'left'/'right' arrow keys to
"Sections/Slip and Clip..." dialog, such that they will simulate incrementing/decrementing the
buttons your mouse is currently hovering over.
22) Added checkboxes for Plan and 3D Views to 'Add Above Label to PI Leader Text in' in "Terrain/A
lignment/Display Options for P.I., Alignment, Right of Way..."
23) Make sure "Lines/File Reference Check" shows errors generated by not having the necessary
license capabilities to move/check structure files.
24) For customized structures, added an option to fix invalid base structure references to
"Lines/File Reference Check", "File/Auto-Organize Project...", and "File/PLS-GRID/Add Project".
25) Added "F1/Custom / Under Development/Convert Lite Model to PLS-CADD XYZ Project..." which
saves a PLS-CADD/LITE model as a PLS-CADD XYZ project which can use all the standard PLS-CADD
functionality.
26) Added a warning to PLS-CADD/LITE models which contain spans with an azimuth of either 0 or
180 degrees, explaining that those could have inconsistent results since they are neither clearly
ahead nor back spans.
27) Now warn about potential unsaved changes whenever you hit the ESC key in a dialog containing
a table with changes.
28) Added "File/Preferences" setting to reverse direction of zoom with scroll wheel.
29) Improved robustness of file writes when writing multiple files simultaneously.
30) Updated error, warning, and informational message dialogs to a standard format with a

Engineering and Reports:
1) Added support for three new insulator types:
*) Lambda (Inverted V)
*) Double Pin
*) Double Suspension
2) EN50341-2-15:2019 now calculates an insulator GRF, Gc, using "sum of adjacent spans" for Lm.
3) EN50341-2-5:2019 CProb factor for lines with a design life less than 50 years now applied to
wind pressure instead of velocity.
4) Added EPSG 9377 (MAGNA-SIRGAS / Origen-Nacional) definition to "custom" proj file.
5) Added right click "Aggregate Across All Load Cases" command for any report
schema that has "Title Detail" defined (e.g. a load case name) and where the report contains more
than one of these schemas. Command presents a single large table with all schemas appended and
load case inserted as the first column.
6) Added column 'Analysis Type' to "Structure Locations and Usage Report" table in "Lines/Reports/
Structure Usage..." that shows if Method 4 structures are using linear or nonlinear analysis.
7) Enabled checking clearance to the Ground TIN for jumpers and separator cables in "Lines/Reports
/Survey Point Clearances..."
8) Added 'Check clearances to Surface TIN' option to "Lines/Reports/Survey Point Clearances..."
9) Added special case for "Lines/Reports/Survey Point Clearances..." usage calculation: when the
distance to wire is zero, report a usage of 200%, unless required clearance is also 0, then report
0%.
10) In 'Terrain Clearance by Span' report for "Lines/Reports/Survey Point Clearances...", added
columns for Cable File, Phase and Circuit Labels. Hidden by default.
11) Improved performance of "Lines/Reports/Thermal Rating Report..." when using a large TIN
model.
12) In "Lines/Reports/Structure Clearances...", when selecting 'Use Weather Case Specific
Required Clearances', if the table has duplicate entries with the same Voltage and Weather Case,
but different Required Clearance values, use the larger required clearance to ensure consistent
results.
13) In "Lines/Reports/Danger Tree Locator..." added hidden columns for Longitude, and Latitude to
"Vegetation Analysis Report".
14) Flag NG results in "Sections/Clearances/Galloping Ellipses..." when using CIGRE 322 with
invalid calculated 'Conductor Span Parameter' values.
15) Added a report option to "Sections/SAPS Label Options..." which includes the information
shown by the SAPS labels. Also updated SAPS labels to draw on the back span side of Dead End
structures.
16) Changed contour draw options in "Sections/Electric/3D EMF Calculator..." from radio buttons
to check boxes so it is possible to generate both Electric and Magnetic Fields at once.
17) Reversed sign of Longitudinal Moment in "Wire Load Induced Ground Line Moments For Single
Pole Centered At Structure Origin" so that clockwise is positive, matching PLS-POLE and TOWER
programs.
18) Added multi-structure selection tab to "Terrain/TIN/Leg and Guy Extension Report".

Drafting and Graphics:
1) Changed "Drafting/Display Options/Show Set and Phase Labels in 3D Views" and "Drafting/Display
Options/Show Cable Attachment Points" to display cable attachment point symbols and set and phase
labels at the ends of strain insulators (where the wire attaches to the insulator).
2) Added "Exclude attachments, survey points, and TIN" option to "File/Export/DXF..."
3) Added '3D View' option to "DXF Overlay Options" dialog to control whether a DXF or SHP file
displayed in the 3D View independently of the Plan View.
4) In "Sections/Display Options..." when using the 'Load Case Display' there is now an option for
'Display wind direction arrows' which will graphically draw arrows at base of the selected
structure showing the direction of wind for that load case.
5) Improved the sizing of the circle graphic for "Sections/Swap Attachments" and removed
extraneous 'ahead' and 'back' labels when they don't apply.
6) "File/Export/KMZ (Google Earth) ..." now has a checkbox option to include annotations in the
export.
7) Now support hatches and splines in DXF attachments.
8) Added custom hatch support to polygon and ellipse annotations.
9) Added option to 'Use feature code (number) as layer name' for survey point symbols in the
"Drafting/Text Size, Line Width, Style, Color and Layer..."
10) Now save 'Snap to Grid Settings' inside "View/Entity Info Snap Settings..." to PPS file.

PLS-GRID:
1) In "File/PLS-GRID/Grid Analytics...", there is now an option to unselect a project within the
defined region before the reports are run.
2) In "File/PLS-GRID/Grid Analytics..." when selecting a Criteria / Feature Code override
project, it will now merge Feature Code voltages when the target project has a different set of
clearance voltages than the selected override project.
3) Added "Sections/Stringing Chart/Multiple Sections..." to "File/PLS-GRID/Grid Analytics..."
4) Added "Lines/Reports/Structure Loads Report..." to "File/PLS-GRID/Grid Analytics..."
5) Added "Lines/Reports/Structure Wind Rating Report..." to "File/PLS-GRID/Grid Analytics..."
6) Updated "File/PLS-GRID/Open Grid View" to better display over large areas up to entire globe
without visual tears and gaps.
7) Improved the Voltage Legend in the Grid View window by grouping consecutive voltages that
share the same line properties (color/style/thickness) and added a checkbox to "File/PLS-GRID/Displa
y Options..." to toggle this on/off.
8) Added Lock Snap Entity option to context menu command "Change Snap Settings" in the Grid View
to disable their mouse from snapping to new elements so user can interact with Property scroll bars
without changing their selection.
9) Add button "Show Results in GRID View" to "File/PLS-GRID/Project Discovery" which applies the
current Discovery filters to the GRID Map View window.
10) Added option to search by structure name in "File/PLS-GRID/Goto/Zoom".
11) Added menu item "Drafting/Structure and Section Labeling/Grid View" to support unique
structure label settings for Grid view.
12) Allow PLS-CADD users without PLS-POLE or TOWER licenses to check out and check in a PLS-GRID
project with PLS-POLE and TOWER models as long as those models are not modified.
13) Improve error handling when user without necessary structure program licenses attempts to do
a PLS-GRID Check In of a PLS-CADD project which requires them.
14) Added an iTwin synchronization option when doing an Add Project or Check-In Project to
PLS-GRID.
15) Improved PLS-GRID Map View draw performance 2-4x when reprojecting to a new coordinate system
for large data sets.
16) Improved performance of moving projects to workspace directory when using File/PLS-GRID/Add
Project or File/Auto-Organize Project...
17) Updated "File/New/Project Estimator..." to work when a project from PLS-GRID is selected for
the "Import Data from an Existing Project..." button.
18) Improved search in "File/PLS-GRID/Project Discovery" to specify what to search (project
names, general data, etc) and directly access recent and saved search queries from a dropdown list.
19) In "File/PLS-GRID/Project Discovery", added option to mark projects as "Favorites" from the
context menu, and user can toggle between showing all / only showing favorites with a checkbox.
20) In "File/PLS-GRID/Project Discovery", added option to filter by projects group affiliation.
21) In "File/PLS-GRID/Project Reviewer" List of Files, fixed grouping of some files and show
subdirectory names for "Components", "Loads", "References", and "Attachments".
22) In "File/PLS-GRID/Project Reviewer" List of Files, use a highlight color when there are
multiple files with the same content (e.g. structure component files).
23) Added "File/Preferences" setting to automatically prompt to check-in current project to
PLS-GRID (if checked-out by the current user) when closing the project.
24) Added option to create BAK of a project checked out from PLS-GRID that can edited by other
PLS-GRID users, but only the user that checked it out can check it back in.
25) Improved detection and notification of changes made to external reference files when using
the Reference Manager and checking a project in to PLS-GRID.
26) Improved error handling and reporting when uploading files to a PLS-GRID server.

Fixes:
1) Fixed all reproducible user reported crashes and lockups.
2) Fixed a UI slowdown issue when moving and resizing inset views on sheets with lots of inset
views.
3) Fixed an issue handling certain types of non-standard file paths for attachments and references
.
4) Fixed issue with "Lines/Reports/Thermal Rating Report..." where, when doing rectangular
checks, it could incorrectly find vertical violations for survey points with horizontal distance
beyond the horizontal clearance threshold.
5) Fixed drawing performance issue when using very large feature code symbols.
6) Fixed issue with new BAK files missing the project's ground TIN if the project file name has
an extra '.' in it.
7) Fixed a possible slow down in background processing caused by certain printer drivers.
8) Fixed context menu "Move Guy Anchor/Snap to Survey Point" which was incorrectly snapping to an
insulator attachment instead of the guy.
9) Fixed attachment manager Notes and Keywords clearing out when the file is reread.
10) Fixed issue handling Z value adjustments for non-long/lat coordinate systems when the
coordinate system's linear unit is not meters.
11) Fixed issues with exporting arc, dimension angle, and ellipse annotations when exporting to
DXF.
12) Fixed display of "Sections/Swap Attachments" so that labels in pie graphic are always drawn
with Ahead/Back distinction if there is at least one dead-end attachment in that pie.
13) Fixed potential issue with structure orientation when using "Structures/Alignment/Convert
Structure(s) to Station-based..." when structure is close to a PI.
14) Fixed issues with how structure set and phase numbers are reported when checking clearances
to jumpers with "Lines/Reports/Survey Point Clearances..."
15) Fixed bug in "Sections/Thermal Calculations (IEEE, CIGRE and TNSP)/Batch Thermal Calculator...
" where it wasn't allowing zero values in the 'Global Solar Radiation' column and prevented
analysis after dark when using the 'Specific' solar radiation method.
16) Fixed bug in "Lines/Reports/Survey Point Clearances..." where it was not accurately accounting
for the bundle radius when the survey point is above the wire.
17) Fixed bug in "Lines/Reports/Wire Clearances" when checking clearances to jumpers, where only
wind from the Left was being checked regardless of what wind direction was specified.
18) Fixed possible incorrect height adjustments when using "Terrain/Alignment/Table Edit
Alignment", "Structures/Alignment/Convert Structure(s) to XY-based...", or "Structures/Alignment/Con
vert Structure(s) to Station-based..."
19) Fixed issue where PLS-CADD would ask if you want to save a project even when there were no
changes.

21) Fixed bug in the Netherlands EN50341-2-15_2019 NNA where the wind angle used to calculate
Cdir was off by 180 degrees.
22) Fixed bug where project TIN files were not being kept when using "File/PLS-GRID/Rename
Project."
23) Fixed some message box size issues to ensure all message text is visible.
24) Fixed toolbar drawing artifacts when changing display settings, such as when docking a laptop
or connecting to a projector.
25) Restored ability to write ASCII version of ground TIN when user selects 'ASCII XYZ Files' for
the file type when doing "File/Save As..." which stopped working in v19.00.

geometry that aggregates a user selected schema over load cases and then over all open deformed
geometry view (i.e. configurations from Family Manager).
5) Added right click "Aggregate Across All Load Cases" command for any report
schema that has "Title Detail" defined (e.g. a load case name) and where the report contains more
than one of these schemas. Command presents a single large table with all schemas appended and
load case inserted as the first column.
6) Issue a warning when have short post insulators that are chained to other posts as this can
cause convergence problems.
